Throughout the big band era the moments when the sax section was featured always piqued my interest as a truly enjoyable musical treat.

Discovering the readily identifiable individuality of musical expression among the various composers and arrangers led me to a deep appreciation for the interpretive saxophonists. The manner in which they would together bring the written music to life is a beautifully inspiring phenomenon that never ceases to warm my musical heart and soul.

In the history of the "sax section," in the jazz context, there is a deep rich tradition that for various reasons has become grossly overlooked. Consequently there is a neglected avenue for meaningful musical expression simply waiting to be explored by talented and dedicated saxophonists and writers alike.

Now, however, in the real world of democratically enthusiastic ensemble playing, where each individual voice is equally important, there are in my estimation few musical rewards that can compare with the combined efforts of a group of qualified individuals with a loving unity of purpose through sensitive melodic and rhythmic interpretation, striving together to meet the challenge of bringing beautiful music to life.

I for one, am ever so appreciably aware that I've been so very fortunate to perform with and learn from many of the world's great musicians, amongst whom I have found a great many truly outstanding human beings.
